Certificate in TEFL is intended for trainees who wish to embark on a career in the teaching of English as a Foreign Language. This is a programme gives you an introduction to the theory and practice of contemporary English teaching. It covers the essential components needed to equip one with the necessary skills to land that first job as an English teacher.

The programme provides an insight into the challenges facing the learner and the role of the teacher. The up-to-date and practical course provides a path for those desiring a fast entry into the teaching industry or who are exploring teaching English as a possible career without an initially huge outlay in investment.

Learning Outcome

Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:

📌understand the English language
📌be familiar with the varieties of English
📌understand how English language is acquired
📌be well-versed in language tutoring methodology
📌know how to select and use materials to teach the English language
📌know how to use materials and aids to teach English in the class
📌know how to design syllabuses|curricula
📌know how to plan lessons
📌know how to organise and manage classes
📌know how to teach grammar and vocabulary
📌know how to teach receptive and productive skills

Students should preferably:

📌be competent speakers of English;
📌have obtained at least 3 credits in GCE ‘O’ Level with a credit in GCE ‘O’ Level English as a First Language or;
📌have obtained an equivalent qualification, e.g. IELTS Band 6.5/ TOEFL 600/ High School English standards from regional countries).

Students will take an English Proficiency Test upon enrolment conducted by the school to determine their entry into the course. The minimum age of student must be 21 years old.

Practicum

📌Assessment Two hour open book written exam

Students are allowed to bring in their course notes, textbook and other materials to the examination hall during examination.
