Established in 2006, STI Myanmar College is one of Myanmar's longest-established private higher education institutions, with campuses in Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw.

STI began as STI Education in 2006 with a clear purpose: to expand access to quality higher education and create stronger academic and career pathways for students in Myanmar.
From the beginning, STI recognised that international collaboration could provide students with opportunities extending beyond a single institution or qualification.
That principle has continued to shape STI's development: students should be able to begin their journey in Myanmar and progressively access wider academic, professional and international opportunities.
STI's international journey took an important step forward in 2008 through its partnership with the Open University of Hong Kong, now Hong Kong Metropolitan University.
The collaboration provided progression opportunities for eligible STI Advanced Diploma graduates to enter the BA (Hons) Business Management Top-Up programme, together with postgraduate pathways including MBA and MEd programmes.
STI subsequently expanded its international engagement, including collaboration with Mahidol University in Thailand in education and training, academic research, and faculty and student exchange.
These partnerships established the foundation for STI's increasingly international approach to higher education.
A defining milestone came in 2015, when STI established its most substantial Transnational Education (TNE) partnership with the University of Bedfordshire in the United Kingdom.
The partnership celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2025, representing a decade of sustained academic collaboration and thousands of student and graduate journeys.
Through this partnership, students in Myanmar can study programmes leading to University of Bedfordshire UK qualifications, while benefiting from academic quality assurance, faculty development and academic oversight associated with the partnership.
The relationship has evolved beyond qualification delivery. It has contributed to STI's academic systems, teaching capacity, quality culture and continuous professional development.
For students and families, its value is equally important: the opportunity to access a UK higher education pathway while studying in Myanmar.
The partnership creates mutual value—strengthening STI Myanmar College's academic capacity while extending the University of Bedfordshire's international engagement, reach and impact.
In 2018, STI reached an important institutional milestone through approval from the Myanmar Investment Commission, operating as Science & Tech International Myanmar University Co., Ltd.
The same year, STI became a founding member of the ASEAN-China Alliance for Private Higher Education Institutions, strengthening its connections with higher education institutions across ASEAN and China.
These regional relationships have supported opportunities in areas including student mobility, micro-credentials, academic exchange and collaborative research.
STI's model has consequently continued to evolve around three complementary dimensions:

Academic quality and international recognition have remained central to STI's development.
In 2019, BEng(Hons) degree programme in Civil Engineering gained accreditation from the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) under the UK Engineering Council framework.
A further milestone followed in November 2021, when STI's Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering (Level 5) and Advanced Diploma in Business Management were formally benchmarked by UK ENIC.
The qualifications were benchmarked as comparable in content and standards to relevant qualifications in the UK, including Foundation Degrees and stages of bachelor's degree study.
These milestones reflect STI Myanmar College's continuing commitment to academic rigour, external quality reference points and internationally connected education.
In 2023, STI Myanmar College entered another stage of its institutional journey, receiving its license to operate as a college under Myanmar's Ministry of Education.
Across changing regulatory, economic and social environments, STI has continued to develop its academic systems, faculty capabilities, student support and international partnerships.
The institution's evolution has therefore been about more than growth.
It has been about building an institution capable of providing students with continuity, progression and opportunity.
The most important measure of STI's evolution is not the number of milestones it has achieved. It is what those milestones make possible for students.

Graduates from STI's internationally connected programmes have progressed to advanced study, international research and increasingly senior professional roles across the private, development and international sectors, while others have established enterprises and start-ups of their own.
Some alumni continue their relationship with STI by sharing professional experience and mentoring current students.

International education should not necessarily require students to leave Myanmar before they can access international academic opportunities.
Through its international university partnerships, UK Transnational Education programmes and regional academic networks, STI Myanmar College has worked to bring those opportunities closer to students.
Its campuses in Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw extend this mission across different parts of the country.
